《木馬屠城記》(Troy) 裡面 Hector 的父親 - 金髮的 Peter O'Toole 年輕時的代表作《阿拉伯的勞倫斯》(Lawrence of Arabia)，這是一部真人真事改編的名片由大導演 David Lean 執導，敘述一次大戰期間英國替阿拉伯人撐腰以便和德國暗助的土耳其人對抗的故事，牛津大學高材生卻去從軍的 Lawrence 憑著熱忱以為在幫助弱小族群，後來卻發現自己只是政客手下的一枚小棋子而已 .....想像一下，當你看到一望無際的沙漠那一瞬間 ...... 該配上什麼音樂？點播這裡面的 Overture ，大概就八九不離十了，1961 年時導演 David Lean 對這部電影寄以厚望對配樂當然不能馬虎，想不到 David Lean 連找了五個高知名度的音樂家 William Walton, Malcolm Arnold, Benjamin Britton, 俄籍的 Aram Khachaturian, 美籍的 Richard Rogers 不是拒絕接手或無瑕幫忙就是做不出 David Lean 所要的感覺。最後充當消防隊的年輕法國青年 Maurice Jarre (1924 ~ 2009) 臨時接獲重任，戲劇化的在五個星期內做出如此不朽配樂，除了機運之外 Maurice Jarre 本身的音樂天賦也不容小歔。
Maurice Jarre 16 歲以前是完全不懂音樂的，超過 16 歲之後唯一能選擇的方向就是打擊樂了，但是 Jarre 也有其他音樂學習者沒有的強項那就是他過人的人文素養加上對民族音樂的研習，使得 Jarre 面對不同題材的電影時都能找出自己的方向。 話說在 1980 年之前是沒什麼電子音樂的，這種大場面大格局的音樂通常需要管弦樂團演奏， 這片由英國著名的 Philharmonic Orchestra 在 1989 年演出。
